Is Rest Really That Important?

The results are in. Many student-athletes do not receive an adaquate amount of rest. Of course, we all know this. Allow to shed some light on why you should make more of an effort to under the covers before the next day officially begins. The most significant amount of muscle growth occurs while you are sleeping. Pushing yourself hard in the weightroom will not pay off for you unless you are allowing your muscles to rebuild and repair.

Coffee Before a Workout?

Drinking a cup of Java before a workout could enhance your workout. Studies have shown that endulging in a cup of the black stuff provides a boost of energy to get the most out of your lift. If your like me, and absolutely despise morning workouts, drinking a cup thirty minutes before your first lift is just what the doctor ordered. You can find this and many other helpful tips at MensHealth.com.

Basketball Woes

Being a college basketball player has a great deal of advantages. These programs generally have more money than many programs on campus. However, playing basketball at the collegiate level also does take it's toll on family relations. The average amount of time for Christmas break around 3-4 weeks for the majority of students and student-athletes combined. Unfortunately, members of a men's or women's basketball team generally have less than a week to spend with their families during the holiday season. There is nothing better than being with your family during this time of year. My heart goes out to the many men and women who are not blessed with this opportunity.

Student-athlete

We all have been preach to about being a student-athlete. However, many of us have no idea what it truly means to fulfill this role. Throughout my entire college career, I went to class because I had to, and tried my best in school in order to stay eligible to to play. Now that I am a senior, I am realizing what my student-athlete experience has given to me. I have had the opportunity to see what my education can do for me. I graduate in April, and I will be able to work in an area that I absolutely love. Healthcare is amazing field. Playing baseball in college has given me so much. I am so thankful.

Stay focused

Working out on your own during a holiday break can be requires a great deal of discipline. I commend those who stay consistent over the break. It is amazing how fast a person can lose the results that have been worked so hard for. I encourage all of you to stay focused on your goals and make an effort to improve during this time with your friends and family.

Employers Want You

Does playing a college sport give you an advantage when applying for a job? I have been told this a few times, but have never known why a college athlete is so much more appealing than a traditional student.
Below are a list of my assuptions:
Student-athletes are used to following a strict schedule
Student-athletes are able to receive and apply instruction
Student-athletes generally take good care of their bodies

If your tired of the same old workout, talk to your coach and see if their are only trainers in your area looking to land a big account.

Christmas Break

I'm so very excited about the fact that I recently purchased my ticket to go home. I go to school about 800 miles from home and haven't seen my family since July. My niece and nephew are so cute and I can't wait to see them. Being at home is such a special time, and I await the date of our reunion with great anticipation.
